Homebrew Class: Alchemists.
WHAT ARE ALCHEMISTS?
The final goal for any Promethean is finding their Philosopher’s Stone: becoming human again. Redeemed Prometheans do not usually remember their previous existence, and often end up living completely normal mortal lives by merit of the fact that they do not possess any special abilities. Occasionally, however, the Redeemed DO remember. And sometimes, beyond remembering, they still have the power to draw upon the spark of Pyros – the Divine Fire – that remains within their souls.
Alchemists are Redeemed Prometheans or the descendants of Redeemed Prometheans who have recognized the presence of the power within them, and are able to use the transmutations of Promethean alchemy. Many of them devote their energies towards aiding Prometheans, but just as many of them also end up crossing to the other side and abusing their newfound powers.
There are two basic options for players who are interested in having Alchemist characters: they can be the descendant of a Promethean or they can play a Redeemed Promethean who has discovered his calling as an Alchemist.
THEN PROMETHEAN, NOW REDEEMED, ALWAYS AN ALCHEMIST
Players who opt to play Redeemed Alchemists will have to read Promethean: the Created, or at least be familiar with the nature of Prometheans. The most important details that they will have to consider would be their Lineage, how their Pilgrimage was, how they ended up Redeeming themselves, and how they ended up as Alchemists.
CHILD OF A REDEEMED
A player who has opted to play the child of a Redeemed Promethean does not have to worry too much about reading Promethean. Most Redeemed Prometheans do not speak of their previous life to the mortals whom they have chosen to marry. It is entirely possible that prior to the emergence of their powers, their characters had no idea what the World of Darkness was, much less what a Promethean was.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Due to the fact that the Divine Fire remains strong within their Patterns, Alchemists have access to the same Transmutations that Prometheans do.
ALCHEMISTS IN TODAY'S VIGIL
Prometheans have always had the hardest supernatural existence because of the fact that they are walking anomalies in a universe with rules, and the breaking of the Veil only made things harder for them. Alchemists – Prometheans who have managed to Redeem themselves, or individuals borne of the Redeemed – did not have it any easier either. There are only too many accounts of horrific abuse or murders of Prometheans and Alchemists alike, especially in the absence of a more convenient target. As a result, Prometheans have taken to retreating even further away from the very human society that they need to learn to co-exist with in order to complete their Pilgrimage.
Alchemists of the Order of the Golden Dawn have been working closely with world governments to provide a better environment for their brethren, but progress in that direction has been frustratingly slow. Furthermore, many Alchemists and Prometheans – tired and resentful of the negative reception they receive both from humans and other supernaturals – have started looking into the darker alchemies, all on the pretense of “protecting themselves” or simply because they’re out for a little revenge.
