Homebrew Class: Technomancers.
WHAT ARE TECHNOMANCERS?
The Uratha have long understood the fact that everything in the universe – every being, every object and every location – is inhabited by a unique spirit that directly reflects the object’s nature in the mortal realm. Even the most contemporary devices, such as computers and cars, possess them. The People therefore get by through their ability to communicate with such spirits, and other mortals – Mages, Changelings and psychics, in particular – have similar practices in their own right. Now, for the past two centuries, a new individual capable of communicating directly with the spirits that inhabit technology has emerged: Technomancers, the so-called “spirits of the 20th Century”.
In the simplest terms, Technomancers are capable of manipulating all forms of technology by either bonding with or imposing their will upon the spirits that dwell within mortal devices and constructs. They are also capable of controlling electrical energy. By merit of their nature, tend to be much more at home with communing with technology, machines and similar artificial constructs: they speak their language, and sometimes seem to embody the metal and programming that these devices are made of. Given their spectrum of power, it should come as no surprise that they are amazing allies to have, but incredibly deadly enemies to face.
POWERS & ABILITIES
The soul of a Technomancer calls out to the impulses of the spirits within machines and the raw, crackling energy that electricity embodies. Technomancy reflects the raw power that Technomancers have over their areas of providence, and the level of control he has over his own abilities. Having more dots in Technomancy allows a Technomancer to learn more advanced Aptitudes and develop their traits to superhuman levels. Of course, the higher a Technomancer’s Technomancy, the less in touch he tends to be with mundane reality.
TECHNOMANCERS IN TODAY'S VIGIL
Until the rise of a proper tagging and identification system, most Technomancers flew right under the radars of most of the Keepers of the Vigil. Prior to 2012, Hunters who did not happen to be a part of the Methuselah or of Zangyaku often wrongfully identified Technomancers as some other kind of Touched. It was only after the First Reforms that the Fifth World became aware of what Technomancers actually were, even if the supernatural class had emerged as early as the 19th Century.
Technomancers, in general, are “in demand” both in and beyond the Vigil due to the abilities at their disposal. Nevertheless, Technomancers with more freakish manifestations tend to be persecuted in spite of the good that they are capable of doing for their communities. They, like the Touched, suffered a lot during the Darkest Vigil. As a result, many of them ended up joining the Vigil has a means of protecting themselves and their families.
