Our Code: the Rules
OUR CODE: THE RULES
DO NOT BE ANTI-FUN.
In less politically correct terms, this means don't be an asshole. Respect your fellow players and the game. If you need Pam or any of the mini-moderators to mediate, contact them privately. We'd be happy to help, and we are all 100% Anti-Bullshit.
Waking the Dead: Welcome to the New Age has a three-strike rule. Once you've been flagged for violations three times, you will be removed from the game. The first offense will, of course, receive a warning.
For your reference, we have outlined some the actions that our mod team considers as "anti-fun" would be any of the following: horrible out-of-game behavior, inappropriate conduct, plagiarizing applications, infractions of the rules, godmoding, metagaming (particularly relevant to people who are coming in with tabletop experience), infomodding, power gaming, munchkinning, cheating on dice rolls, failing to appropriately label posts with warnings (i.e. trigger warnings, not worksafe warnings - if you honestly forgot, though, just tell us that you did and we'll let this one slide), and not respecting the OPEN/CLOSED labels on threads (so basically anything labeled "open" is free game).
LIVE-ACTION PBs ONLY, PLEASE!
To promote a uniform look to the game, all characters must have a live-action PB. Please avoid icons of fanart, animation, comic art, etc.
This rule is non-negotiable. If your character looks distinctly inhuman for whatever reason, though, contact the mod team. We'll figure something out!
DON'T PEER OVER THE STORYTELLER'S SCREEN
( OR OVER OTHER PLAYER'S SCREENS EITHER, FOR THAT MATTER )
RESPECT in-game secrets, and respect the difference between OOC information and IC information - that is, what you as player know versus what your character(s) know. Welcome to the New Age is structured more like a tabletop game than it is a DWRP, which makes plot twists and other in-game revelations hold a lot more weight than it would in any other setting.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE POSTING FORMAT FOR THE LOGS COMMUNITY.
Here it is, for future reference and convenient copypasta:
The subject line of your post must also have the in-game date, day, and time listed, together with whether it is [OPEN] to all players or [CLOSED] to a specific one or few.
Note that the logs community will have to be used for exchanges over email or the phone between two characters. The network community represents GeistNET and the other Vigil Networks, which is the 'official' way for operatives to contact each other or for civilians in Falner to get a hold of people.
Once you're done, use the tags specific to our system that we'll be providing you with on the community. Do not make new tags; request for them from us.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE POSTING FORMAT FOR THE NETWORKS COMMUNITY.
The subject line of your post must have the in-game date, day, and time that it went up on the network. Specify, as well, if it's on the [GENERAL] network, if it's FILTERED to specific groups or people (please outline these groups, of course, in your post [for example, "Filtered to LogosNET" or "Filtered to the War Hounds"; utilize the DW cuts for this purpose, and headlines), or if it's both. You're also going to need to specify if it's a VIDEO, VOICE or TEXT post.
Filtering has levels of encryption attached to them for privacy, and Welcome to the New Age uses four levels of encryption: LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH and UNHACKABLE. The "default" setting for a filter is LOW, and only characters with the proper skill sets (i.e. they have dots in Computer) can feasibly use MEDIUM and HIGH filters. To make a MEDIUM filter, your character must have 3 or more dots in Computer. To make a HIGH filter, your character must have 5 or more dots in Computer.
UNHACKABLE filters have additional enchantments and security in place that really do make them unhackable. Only NPCs can avail of this feature for story purposes.
If you want your character to hack into somebody's filter, secure permission from the relevant parties OOCly, and then make your roll (Intelligence + Computer + Equipment Bonuses [if any] + Circumstance Modifiers [if any]). The target number (that is, the number of successes that you'll have to get in order to be successful) is determined by the level of filtering, as follows:
- LOW: 10
- MEDIUM: 20
- HIGH: 30
Every roll signifies about thirty minutes of hacking through the filter.
Note, as well, that the Arcanum has operatives watching suspicious activity on the network. If characters hack through filters a lot and they don't have the means or the skill to hide their movements, they might just knock on your door someday.
If you're using your Computer Skill in order to cover your traces on GeistNET, you will need to score at LEAST 20 successes using Intelligence + Computer rolls within 24 hours in-game. Unfortunately, most supernatural abilities cannot be employed to cover one's traces: the Arcanum has a bit of an auto-flag for that in the area, given the number of high-powered NPCs there are. (You're welcome to attempt tobeg for your lifebribe them if they catch you and you wish to get out of the incident unscathed).
Network posts are STRICTLY action-based. Once you're done, use the tags specific to our system that we'll be providing you with on the community. Do not make new tags; request for them from us.
RESPECT THE DICE ROLLS.
Welcome to the New Age once again, has more tabletop elements than it does DWRP, and what makes any tabletop system fun is the use of dice rolls.
Respect their results: don't tweak them in your favor.
An explanation on how dice rolls work in-game can be found on our Systems & Mechanics Guide.
MAINTAIN A REASONABLE STANDARD OF WRITING.
Check your grammar, check your spelling, and so on, so forth. Typos are forgivable on occasion, but having way too many and too consistently across all of your tags belies a carelessness that makes the mod team rather uncomfortable.
STAY IN CHARACTER, BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT YOUR CHARACTER.
Welcome to the New Age is all about nice, solid pretendy fun times, not about wish fulfillment, taking out IRL aggression, power tripping in a fictional setting or playing out ridiculous fantasies that have no bearing on character growth or plot progression whatsoever. Furthermore, keep the lines between you and your muse separate. Any blurring of them has never given people a good time.
MUNS MUST EITHER BE 18 YEARS OF AGE AND ABOVE, OR EMOTIONALLY 18 AND ABOVE.
Due to the nature of the game, we WILL be dealing with potentially triggering topics, and the labels might not always be edited in time if spontaneously crazy things happen within threads. If you're below eighteen and you want in on the game, you'll have to go through the referrals like everyone else, and the mod team may be inclined to monitor you a little more closely than the rest.
If you do happen to be below 18 and you want to app in, do not lie about your age to us. We will automatically rescind our invitation to join Waking the Dead if we find out, and we will find out.
