HISTORY
Lucifuge agents dragged an 8-year-old Samuel Crowley away from the bodies of his parents after the Lady had ordered their execution – Samuel’s father had been the 108 before him, and had gone rogue from the conspiracy. The man who ended up taking Samuel in and facilitating the boy’s training after his awakening as 108 was 173 – ironically, the same Number that had been assigned to kill 108’s parents. As a means of penance and out of the paternal affection he felt for 108 (he had been the original 108’s lover), 173 did his best to train 108 properly while sparing him from as much of the trauma and damage that came with being a part of their conspiracy as he could. Nevertheless, in spite of 173’s best efforts (and the efforts of the likes of Jack Marlowe, the original 010), 108 still became a cold-blooded killer with more than a few horrendous acts to his name.

108’s life changed when he accidentally uncovered the beginnings of the truth behind the Lucifuge and their clandestine relationship with the Malleus Maleficarum. He took all of the information he had gathered and went rogue from the Lucifuge, fleeing their agents at every turn until he finally holed himself up in the Philippines. This was where he came in contact with the Methuselah, and Aidan made him an offer: protection in exchange for the information, and – if he wanted it – a free pass to become an operative of Anino. 108 accepted. After a month of settling in and getting familiar with the workings of his new conspiracy, he was assigned to the Rockin’ Rollas under the command of Father Drake Badd. His first engagement with them involved rescuing 173, who had been assigned to hunt 108 down but had been secretly attempting to keep 108 out of the reach of the other Lucifuge agents that were supposed to execute him.

Outside of all of the engagements that he participated in for Anino together with his blade and the likes of Wolf’s Choice and the Pack, the biggest things that 108 concerned himself with was finding a means to Awaken properly under Liandrin Delacroix’s tutelage (he was a Banisher, and the amount of mystical power within him was causing undue damage to his Pattern), finding a way to save the rest of his brothers and sisters from their own legacy, and exposing the rest of the secrets behind the existence of the Lucifuge. Suffice to say, being Liandrin’s student was an exercise in trust and re-learning self-worth for the both of them, henceforth forming one of the strongest mentor-student pairs in the history of today’s Vigil. Aidan also personally assisted 108 with eliminating his pursuers, razing the Demon’s Spire, and recovering all of the children that the Lucifuge was holding hostage. 173 and 108 then became the “heads” of the new family that they were trying to make, and they were given a home to stay in all on Aidan’s orders.

Things picked up the pace for 108 yet again a little before he joined Netsach with the rest of the Rockin’ Rollas. For one, through Rethe Kyriff’s intervention, 108 managed to get in touch with Lucifer Morningstar – the “Devil” himself – and learn about who the Lady truly was. Lucifer also struck a deal with 108, and agreed to impart the Revelations upon 108. Studying the revelations eventually led to 108’s awakening as a Throne. He later shared this revelation with the rest of his siblings. For another, his participation in the extraction and recovery of kidnapped operatives and civilians from the clutches of the Morningstar Corporation made him aware of the existence of Vainglory, the Eighth Sin. He and the Thrones would later take responsibility for Vainglory’s destruction.

While he was a part of Netsach, 108 continued to participate in engagements with his comrades in the conspiracy and make notable contributions to the study of Magience and Magitech for Leviathan. The Thrones also began to grow steadily, as 108 and 173 had their fledgling compact ally themselves with some of the bigger players of the Vigil and eventually managed to convince their comrades-in-arms to let the Thrones have exclusive jurisdiction of any Infernal business in the Fifth World. Furthermore, he and his comrades within Netsach managed to completely dismantle Lucifuge operations, take the first steps towards liberating Malleus Maleficarum from demonic control, and assassinate the Lady, thus bringing all but 87 of their lost brothers and sisters into the Thrones.

It was also during this period that he came in contact with the remaining members of his human family, and also struggled for the romantic feelings that he began to develop for Sawyer Mesch, the Dovetailor. It took the pair some time to get over one major issue: that 108 had actually been responsible for the wholesale slaughter of some of Sawyer’s sisters while he was an agent of the Lucifuge, and Sawyer had actually forgiven him for it even before letting him know that she had found out. Ultimately, though, 108’s experience on the 195th floor of the Unnamed Tower led him back to Sawyer. The two of them married each other on the eve of the final battle with Nyx.

In the years after Operation Nyx, 108 was almost entirely preoccupied with establishing the Thrones as a powerful compact, and a notable international presence within the Vigil. He moved the Thrones headquarters to Milan, and built the Crowley Estate right at the original location of the Demon’s Spire of the Lucifuge. He also pushed his claim with the other Keepers of the Vigil, insisting that his compact was the best suited to handle all demon-related matters that occurred within the Fifth World. Thankfully, he had a lot of support from his allies – Netsach and Zangyaku – and the establishment of the Household ensured that he and the rest of the former children of the Lucifuge always had safe places to go back to, even during the most trying times of their compact.

One of 108’s biggest achievements during the First Reforms was the creation of New Atlantis, the Mage City-State of Earth. This was a pet project between him and four other individuals: Inquisitor Elias Tagabigay, Inquisitor Aria Skye, and Inquisitor Aidan Clayce. He was, however, the quiet presence of the four, as he deliberately chose to avoid being in the spotlight. On another note, he approached Tohru Fukuzawa in order to train as a Celestial Master, and inherit some of the assassin’s counter-supernatural techniques.

108 rooted himself in Europe during the Darkest Vigil, and participated in major operations within the continent. Under his command, the Thrones became the demonic allies of the Brotherhood of Violence and the Order of the Mani dello Spirito Santo, which made them surprisingly active in South America and Africa. One of their major initiatives was monitoring the 87 Strays of the Lucifuge and the individuals that ended up succeeding their numbers, as more than a few of them ended up getting involved with Grendal.


CURRENT STATUS
The real 108’s activity has significantly slowed down since the Armistice at Blaece; he has delegated all of his clones to do his work for him. Many suspect that this is because Sawyer, his wife, is running out of time.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE
108’s childish streak and many eccentricities hide a man who alternates between being wracked with guilt over his nature and the “sins” that he has been forced to commit in the past, and an immortal who is wrestling with the reality of his condition and how it ultimately means that he will outlive his loved ones. The reason why he is keenly interested in remaining, inasmuch as he can, in the background and monitoring everything from a distance has less to do with the need to preempt disaster or a means to stay ahead of everyone else, and more about staying as immersed as possible with whoever and whatever he has grown attached to. He can, after all, only watch over them for so long.

Another thing that defines 108 is his thirst for control, something that manifests best in his passion for research and discourse. He has an almost obsessive need to make the world make sense, which may be grounded upon the doubts and insecurities that he possesses over his very nature. He believes, it seems, that the more he knows, the more he will be able to understand everything.


THREAT LEVEL
COMMENDABLE/NON-FACTOR. 108 (and, by extension, the rest of the Numbers of the Thrones) are an anomaly that none have been able to understand; what is certain is their level of power, and the fact that their immortality gives each one of them a particular edge. 108 himself has been a major player within the politics of the Vigil. Thankfully, he has not abused his position, not once. It seems, at this point, uncharacteristic to conceive of the possibility of him going rogue in the near future.
